Here’s What Truck Repair Shops Don’t Tell You

Diesel mechanics are highly knowledgeable and have a lot of valuable information that could save you time and money. Sadly, many truck repair shops are focused solely on making a profit and not helping their customers. At J & W Mechanical Fleet Services, we believe in being fully transparent and helping our customers extend the life of their vehicles. Here are some things that truck repair shops don’t tell you, but our team is happy to share:

You Need A Preventative Maintenance Plan For All Your Vehicles

A lot of truck repair shops make their money on big repairs like a failed drive train or broken suspension. So many of them do not tell you that a lot of the major repairs can be avoided with a preventative maintenance plan. Every vehicle in your fleet should be on a regular maintenance plan to keep them running smoothly and to avoid costly repairs.

Driving Techniques Can Save You Money On Repairs

There are certain driving techniques that can help you reduce engine stress. For example, double clutching is a driving technique where you press the clutch and shift the gear first to neutral, then you press the clutch again and change into the desired gear. This driving technique is how most standard transmissions work. This will save you wear and tear on both your transmission and trailer, and ultimately save you money on repairs. Most truck repair shops won’t make these recommendations.

You Can Increase Your Fuel Efficiency

Most truck repair shops are just in the business of repairing trucks. They don’t care about their customers enough to give them sound advice on how to reduce their overhead costs. One of the biggest ways to do this is by increasing the fuel efficiency of your fleet by using a different octane fuel, maintaining optimal inflation on your tires, and regularly maintaining your air intake system.

If you’re ready to learn more about how to keep your fleet in great shape, extend the life of your vehicles, and save money on your operational and overhead costs, J & W Mechanical Fleet Services can help. We’ll not only service your vehicles, but make recommendations to keep them running optimally. We believe the success of our customers is a reflection of our success. So we are happy to help you in any way we can. Give us a call to see the difference in service and quality yourself.
